Forehead Lift

What is Forehead Lift?

A forehead lift, commonly known as a brow lift or forehead rejuvenation, is a procedure that aims to provide a smooth forehead look and a younger appearance by raising eyebrows.

How is Forehead Lift surgery done?

There are multiple surgical techniques for forehead lift. Each technique requires a different type of incision and thus causes a different type of scar.

The first technique is an endoscopic brow lift, during which multiple cuts are made behind the hairline. Afterward, a slim and tall tube with a camera is inserted through the cuts to examine the underlying tissue that will be removed. At the same time, another tool is also being inserted through yet another cut, which raises the forehead skin. Then, the cuts are stitched back together for the final, more youthful look.

The second technique is a coronal brow lift, during which a cut is made through the hairline to the peak of the head. Then, the surgeon raises the forehead by removing the overlapping scalps behind and in front of the cut. This technique is often used among people who have low hairlines as well as thick hair since it might cause hair loss.

Last but not least, hairline brow lift enables the surgeon to cut the peak of the forehead and the start of the hairline. In this technique, the scalp is left untouched as the skin on the forehead is being removed to provide the lift. Thus, there is no necessity to move back the hairline.

Regardless of the surgical technique, the forehead lift operation usually takes approximately two hours.

The reasons for having Forehead Lift

Most of the patients prefer to have a forehead lift due to the complications caused by the aging process. In the natural order of aging, the brows often move down while the skin loses flexibility. Other reasons for having a brow lift can be summarized as a sagging brow and lifting the brows to have a more welcoming appearance that looks happier and more lively. Before the Forehead Lift operation

Ahead of the surgeon, the patients are required to stop smoking, avoid some medication, and have a trusted companion to accompany them throughout the process.

After the Forehead Lift operation

Following the brow lift operation, it usually takes about two weeks for the initial injuries to be healed. In the meantime, the patients are recommended to rest with their heads looking up and use necessary medication to avoid pain. A cold compress is also recommended to ease any lumps on the forehead. During the healing process, patients may experience loss of sensation, which is temporary. The stitches are usually being removed 10 days after the surgery.

After the healing process is completed, the patients can go back to work and engage in regular daily activities without any problems. The scars left by the incisions gradually fade. Still, there might be some bruising left on the forehead, which can be easily covered with make-up.

What are the risks of Forehead Lift?

Complications that might occur following a forehead lift can be summarized as scarring, alteration in sensation, brow asymmetry, and - depending on the surgical technique that is used - some hair issues such as loss of hair.
