MR (Magnetic Resonance)

What is MRI?

MRI is referred to as magnetic resonance. MRI is an imaging technique obtained by combining radio waves with atoms in the form of magnets. The difference from tomography is that it is not captured by magnetic resonance radio waves.

In Which Situations Is MRI Used?

In the diagnosis of low back and neck diseases, spinal cord and spine diseases, brain and other neurological brain tumors, MR imaging method can be used in the whole body, especially in the hand, foot and thigh bones.

How is MRI Applied?

Unlike the tomography method, there is no problem in eating or drinking anything before the MRI. During the MRI, no metal objects should be on the person. Items such as watches, earrings, necklaces, piercings, dentures, hairpins, scarf pins should be removed. The patient should be dressed in a gown. Patients with fear or anxiety of confined spaces can be given a mild sedative. During imaging, the person should lie on the table and not move. If an emergency occurs, he can ask for help from the radiologist by using the emergency button. Headphones are recommended for those who are bothered by loud noise. Some patients are also treated with medicated implants. The reason for this is to see the tissues more clearly with the dyestuff. A drug called MRI contrast is injected intravenously. It is no different from a non-medicated MRI.
